The Puppy Papers – Golden Cavaliers Newsletter February 2026

Is it February already?! We’ve been super busy finding homes for our pups, only Fonda remains from Foxy and Marvin’s list born November 22nd. We do have strong interest and she may be confirmed in her forever home by Valentine’s Day, but we must reiterate that families with a deposit have first priority on any available puppies. So just in case, keep an eye on our website.

Please welcome our newest arrivals. Marcy’s pups were born February 1st, and with 5 puppies in total, her list is full.

Below are a few puppy pictures of Miss Fonda and Marcy’s pups. Don’t worry! If you missed out on Marcy’s list, April is due this month, while Sadie and Tallie share the spotlight end of March and first of April. Pairings and due date estimates can be found in the litter list information below.

And if you’re wondering what the preview text is all about, we have some exciting news about our Foundational Training Program. Look for our interview with Steve Haynes of Dogspecialist.com in your newsletter next month.

People often ask if we have pups available, and while our aim is always to have homes for the pups before they’re born, it doesn’t always happen. Why? Well, because…life happens. As we round the curve of winter into spring, we want to introduce you to Fonda whose forever home is pending, but not yet confirmed.

Below Top: Fonda. DOB: 11.22.25 Parents: Foxy x Marvin. Available. Below Bottom: Marcy pups. DOB. 2.1.26 Parents: Marcy x Rufus. Full.

Golden Cavalier’s Foundational Training Program

When pups are 8 weeks old, they are eligible to enter our foundational training program which typically lasts 4 weeks. If you would like to extend the training time, please let us know by the second week of training, so we can make any necessary accomodations as our occupancy is limited.

Your pup will be trained in a home environment with the usual noises that entails. He or she will receive additional socialization from day one which includes more holding, petting, touching, snuggling, cuddling, and general human interaction. Pups will be introduced to a variety of situations, discover toys, and begin their training in earnest after about a day of getting comfortable.

What Your Puppy Will Learn in Training
Every puppy will be trained on these commands and skills going forward.

  1.  Clicker conditioned and use of the clicker for training. It will also make the transfer of these puppies once they go home easier because the trainers the new owners will hire won’t have to do the initial clicker work. They will immediately be able to jump in and begin using the clicker for their training.
  2. Leave it
  3. Come to me
  4. Sit command
  5. Go in your kennel
  6. Kennel/crate training – teaching them to be calm and quiet when they go in there.
  7. Beginning house and potty training
  8. Teaching the ‘go with me’ skill’, teaching them to walk with their owner and stay close when they are off leash.
  9. Beginning leash work
  10. Place command. Teaching the puppy to get on a small elevated platform and stay there. It is essentially teaching the puppies the crate command but without a crate surrounding them. Makes controlling the puppies much either and allows them to be in more places under control in the household with the family.
  11. Wait command – teaching them to stand still and wait at the door or whenever told to stand still.

Above and Beyond Training
During training, puppies will receive

  • Their second puppy immunization and rabies shot. Both given at 12-weeks.
  • A Snuggle Puppy(r) is included in the training package as it helps to keep puppy calm and makes a great sleeping buddy during kennel training.

We give these puppies the best start in life and when you add our training you get an even better start.

Foundational 4-Week Training Package: $3500 minimum for 4 weeks. Any additional weeks or requests will be an additional fee.

Who and What is Involved?
Steve Haynes of Dogspecialist.com is the Proctor of our Training Program. He’s also who you’ll meet for your Puppy Prep Session (part of your puppy purchase price) to help ensure you and your pup get off on the right foot, er paw. Steve has been a dog trainer for 54 years and a dog behaviorist for nearly half those years. He is our go-to resource and the person who trains our trainers on-site. We are currently putting the finishing touches on a video interview we did with him in January, and hope to share it in the newsletter next month and/or on our social media channels.

How Do I Sign Up for Training?
We have created a 3 step process similar to how you’ve reserved your puppy.

1) Please let us know of your interest, and we’ll send you a training questionnaire to help us help you.
2) Complete a training agreement
3) Submit 25%-50% of the training fee prior to enrollment, and the remaining balance due at completion of the training prior to pick up or delivery. This helps to ensure that our trainers get paid.

Is There a Waiting List?
Yes! Since our main goal is to ensure that all puppies have forever homes to go to once they’re ready, we ask families to reserve a space to choose their puppy. This is done by completing an interview questionnaire, a buyer’s agreement, and placing a deposit (which ensures not only your spot on the reservation list, but the order in which puppies are chosen). So, when families ask us if we have available puppies, the answer will almost always be yes.

Pictures Welcome!
If you’ve got pictures you’d like us to share here in the newsletter, or would be open to allowing us to share on our website or social media channels, please feel free to send them to us at admin@goldencavaliers.com.
